After a long day and night driving, the next day we had again a busy schedule. We drove 250 kilometers from Leiria, Tiago's hometown, to the outskirts of Redondo, in the region of Alentejo. Our first appointment was with Anthony Kynaston in Herdade da Maroteira.
While driving there, the landscapes from Alentejo were amazing, it reminded me so much home (Mexico).
So, when we arrived, Anthony welcomed us very warmly. He introduced us about his business and took us around the property with his Land Rover Jeep. We visited the vineyards first and even tried some of the grapes. We met Philip there, farm manager of Maroteira. I loved the company we had behind; three cute dogs were following all the time while we were driving!
So, for my surprise, Maroteira is a 540 hectare farm dedicated to cork forestry and now, they also included the vineyards, which produces the amazing wines Dez Tostões and Cem Reis, great sellers and from our favorites in 7 Mares. Anthony explained that they also offer guided tours around the forest, perfect for trekking lovers! Just imagine, two thirds of the farm is made up of cork oaks! I definitely want to come back to do one of their tours.
At the end of the tour, we drove up the hill where we could capture the amazing landscapes, typical from the Alentejo region. After that, we went to a nice restaurante in Redondo: Serra D'Ossa. We met Philip there and we all had a delicious lunch together, as always, I fell in love with the food and of course we enjoyed pairing the food with one bottle of Cem Reis. Lecker!
